Privacy Policy

Effective Date: January 11, 2025

Introduction

GeoRelics respects your privacy. This policy describes how the GeoRelics mobile application (“the App”) handles your data.

In short: GeoRelics does not run accounts, ads, or first-party tracking, but the app does contact third-party map and search services to work.

What GeoRelics Does NOT Do

  • No accounts. GeoRelics does not require or offer user accounts, email addresses, or sign-ups.
  • No tracking. GeoRelics does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or any form of user tracking.
  • No first-party analytics. GeoRelics does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, or profile-based tracking controlled by the developer.
  • No social features. There are no user profiles, comments, reviews, or community features.

Data Processed on Your Device

Location Data

With your permission, the App uses your device’s location solely to display your position on the map and calculate distances to points of interest. Location data is processed on your device. GeoRelics does not send your precise location to its own servers.

Local Storage

Favorites, visited markers, and settings are stored locally on your device using standard on-device storage.

Third-Party Services

Map Tiles

Map tiles are loaded from third-party tile servers. Depending on the selected layer, this may include OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap, CyclOSM, Esri, OpenMTBMap, or Thunderforest. When you view the map online, these services may receive your IP address and the geographic area you are viewing according to their own privacy policies:

POI Data

Points of interest are queried from the Overpass API (OpenStreetMap). When loading POIs online, your visible map area is sent to retrieve relevant data. The Overpass API does not require authentication.

When you search for places, the app sends your query and approximate map area to the Nominatim search service.

Reference Images

When a point of interest includes Wikipedia or Wikidata references, the app may request preview images from Wikipedia, Wikidata, or Wikimedia Commons.

Children’s Privacy

GeoRelics does not knowingly collect personal information through its own services from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
